Strong Women Kick Butt. Meet our Summer Collection!
When the time came to decide a topic for our summer collection for 2018, all I could think about was that I wanted to create a collection as a tribute to strong women who kick butt. Women who've inspired me, who've fought for us, who've made me think and question and discuss and laugh and cry and redefine my role as a woman in this world.
So today we're introducing five new colors for our project bags that will keep us company throughout the next few months.
I wanted bold colors, strong texture and clear statement lines for this collection.
From top to bottom:
A strong, clear black, named after Emma Watson who's doing amazing work as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, as someone who uses their public platform to drive change in topics she believes in, as the founder of Our Shared Shelf, a wonderful feminist book club.
The second I was introduced to Shuri, the amazing scientist and warrior from Black Panther, I fell in love. Head over heels. She's fictional, yes, but she's unapologetic, completely herself, incredibly intelligent and witty and all around amazing. I want to see more women like her on screens!
For her, we're bringing back a crowd favorite from last year - a textured offwhite, inspired by one of her dresses in the movie.
Lime - the most vibrant lime we could find for Elizabeth Gilbert, writer and podcaster extraordinaire who never ceases to amaze me with her resilience and effervescence and light.
We could not not do a pink for Janelle Monáe. If you're asking yourself why, you need to go and watch this video. YES QUEEN.
How could I do a collection inspired by strong women and not include Chimamanda? Her manifesto "We Should All Be Feminists" is my go-to to gift to everyone who's going their first steps towards understanding why we still need to fight for equality and how we can do it.
PS: Our new summer collection is also now available for wholesale! If you're a LYS owner and would like to carry our bags, please do check out this page with more information about that.
