06-Eight Spa & Barber Lounge

April 2022- Zion, IL

There is no room in the world quite like a barbershop. Conversations flow, opinions run hot, and the walls better have something worth talking about. When 06-Eight Spa & Barber Lounge was getting ready to open in Zion, they knew exactly what kind of energy they wanted to set from day one. They just needed the right piece to do it.

They came to me with a clear vision. Michael Jordan. Third championship. The three-peat.

Honestly, the brief didn't need to be longer than that.

MJ in that moment is one of those images that carries its own weight before you even pick up a brush. The celebration, the emotion, the pure release of a man who had just done something most people said couldn't be done again. Painting that meant getting into the feeling of that moment, not just the likeness. The details had to earn the subject.

The canvas is large. Intentionally so. This isn't a piece you glance at on your way to the chair. It stops you. It anchors the room. Whether you're walking through the door for the first time or posting up in the chair for a fresh cut, it's in frame. Which means it's in every photo, every reel, every moment a client pulls their phone out because the vibe in that shop is too good not to share.

That's what a statement piece is supposed to do. It gives people something to talk about before the conversation even starts. And in a barbershop, getting the conversation started is everything.
