Commissioned — Allen Iverson
August 2021- Kenosha, WI
Some paintings find their right home the second time around.
This one started as a gift, a commissioned canvas of Allen Iverson for someone who wanted a statement piece they'd see every time they moved through their space. The kind of painting that doesn't blend into a room but commands it. Eventually it made its way into a barbershop, and honestly, there is no more fitting place for an AI piece to live.
The culture, the conversation, the unapologetic individuality. Iverson never asked for permission to be himself and a great barbershop operates the same way. It's a space where people come as they are and leave feeling like the best version of that. The energy was always going to match.
The finished piece is bold the way Iverson was bold. You walk past it and it pulls your attention without asking for it. In a barbershop setting it becomes its own conversation, a piece of culture on the wall that reflects the culture of the people sitting in those chairs.
Started as a gift. Found its crowd. That's a good painting doing exactly what it was built to do.
