That's the thing about living near Lake Michigan. The water sits right there, a few blocks east, at the edge of the city. But gas stations on busy streets don't ask you to slow down. They exist in the background of your commute, forgettable by design.
This one is different now.
The wall at this Kenosha BP is on a street with real traffic. That kind of visibility changes what the work needs to do. It has to land fast on someone doing 35 mph and still hold up when they double back for a closer look.
The subject is a coyote. Why a coyote? Because they're all over Wisconsin and almost nobody thinks about them. They're out there moving through the same cities we built over their territory, adapting, surviving, completely off most people's radar. That felt like exactly the right thing to put on a wall. Not a reminder that nature exists somewhere out there. A reminder that it's right here, sharing the block with you.
The coyote faces east. Toward the lake. Sun coming up behind it, Lake Michigan painted into the background the way it sits in real life, close enough to be part of the scene, easy enough to ignore if you're not paying attention.
Big color. Big scale. Something on that corner in Kenosha that earns a second look and gives the neighborhood something to actually see when they pull in for gas.
